It's a start
I tend to shoot a lot when I'm on my way home. This particular night was cold and drizzly.
What I like about this pic is that you can see the rain under the sodium lamps. If you follow the lines of the road, the fence, lights and free way you end up off center. I also tried a few versions where I color corrected the image, with the grass green, the stripes yellow and the sky pale blue. I picked this version instead because you feel like it's night which the white balanced version loses or at least doesn't present the same feeling as strongly.
I shot this with my Rebel XT and Canon 24-105 F4L/IS lens. When I was setting the camera I was checking my meter and couldn't get a good exposure without bumping the ISO to 800, dropping the aperture to wide open and holding the shutter open for 1/4 second. You can really see the slow shutter speed when you look at it larger and see the image of the man on the right hand side is a motion blur.
